A simple guide to take advantage of Sedo’s new integration with Moniker.

Thousands of domainers can now add their domains to SedoMLS Premium thanks to the company’s new agreement with Moniker.

With SedoMLS Premium you can list your domains across Sedo’s network of partner sites (including in the registration path at many registrars) and they can be instantly purchased and transferred.

I just went through the process of adding a couple domains to MLS. It’s fairly similar to the process with Afternic.

1. Log in to your account and go to your domain management console.

2. Click “optimize” next to the domain you want to add to SedoMLS.

3. Select a Buy Now price and your domain registrar. (Note: be sure to click “OK” after each of these or your settings won’t be saved even when you click “activate”.)

On the next page you’ll need to check the box and submit.

4. You’ll receive an email from Moniker with a link to approve the domain from within your Moniker account. Follow the instructions.

Your domain is added to the SedoMLS network almost instantaneously.

A couple things to note:

1. Sedo has a bar graph that shows your promotion level. Don’t worry if one of the squares isn’t full; it likely just means you aren’t parking the domain with Sedo. Sedo says sales increase 40% for domains that are parked with it since they include a for sale link.

2. As an added bonus when you add a fixed price to your domain, Sedo will email people who previously made an offer on your domain to let them know about the new fixed price.

3. Sedo lets registrars add a mark up of up to 15% to your domain price. For example, I listed AlabamaPainter.com for $1,288. SedoMLS partner United Domains lists it for $1,417 and Dotster lists it for $1,481. I listed AnaheimCardiology.com for $2,500 and UnitedDomains is asking $2,750 and Dotster $2,875. So United Domains is adding 10% to the price and Dotster is adding 15% but your commission is still taken off your asking price.

This is somewhat disconcerting as it adds to the overall cost and makes it harder to sell the domain. For example, if Dotster sells AnaheimCardiology.com then the end user paid $2,875. After Sedo’s 20% commission on $2,500 I’d have $2,000. So total commissions are roughly 30%.

That said, this increases the incentive for registrars to push your domains.

TRAFFIC is over. Here’s how it stacked up.

Last Friday I asked five questions that would be answered at this week’s TRAFFIC conference. We now have answers:

1. How will the auction perform?

I’m going to give some credit to Rick on this one. The overall sales numbers were low, but there were a couple things I liked. First, Rick allowed people to pay to get their domains into the auction. I’m not sure if this is the right model but I do think there’s room for some sort of economic incentive control for submitting domains into auctions.

Second, before the auction Rick stood up in front of everyone and said he’d take full responsibility if the auction flopped. No blame on outside forces.

The auction room was packed. You couldn’t tell that on the internet broadcast because everyone sat in the back.

I was a little surprised by the low .xxx numbers given some of the prices paid for domains thus far.

At the end of the day there’s a reality to face here: some of the guys that would have combined to spend millions of dollars at auctions a few years ago aren’t buying any more.

2. Will the venue top last year’s?

This one is hard to judge because mother nature didn’t cooperate. I know that the promoters spent a lot of time decking out the cabanas overlooking the ocean…only to have it washed away. On the plus side it kept everyone around the hotel rather than spreading across town.

3. Will the event have class?

Yes. I’m not aware of any altercations and .xxx kept its event compelling yet inviting to all.

4. Any big news?

Yes. There was Afternic connecting with GoDaddy and Sedo signing deals with Moniker and Dotster.

5. What will attendance be?

I forgot to ask, but I’d say my original prediction of 250-300 was close. More tickets may have been sold but you always have a handful of people who don’t make it.

SedoMLS gets another partner.

Sedo has signed up domain name registrar Dotster to participate in its SedoMLS network. The news comes just one day after the company announced a similar deal with Moniker.

SedoMLS is the companies distributed sales network that offers added exposure and “instant transfer” capability for domain name sales.

Dotster is the 18th largest domain name registrar with just over a million domains under management according to Webhosting.info.

Sedo already had a strong relationship with Dotster. In 2009 it purchased Dotster’s parking company RevenueDirect for $825,000. The acquisition included a continuing monetization agreement. Sedo also had a basic sales listing integration with Dotster back before SedoMLS was born.

The media is buzzing as Apple’s latest CEO introduces the iPad 25. The wafer thin, flexible screen holographic device wows the crowd.

Somewhere, an interested consumer types iPad25.com into his browser bar. But Apple doesn’t own it. (Although it owns iPad25.apple).

I was looking for Ipad 2 information today only to find that, just like iPad.com, Apple doesn’t own iPad2.com. Many people have snapped up iPad#.com domain names. I looked up the status of Ipad2.com through iPad25.com before getting tired. All but two are registered (although many are expired and going through the deletion process).

Sedo has sold the domain name Beem.com for $136,000. The domain name is still pending transfer and the buyer’s identity is not yet known.

The company also brokered the sale of BlackFridaySales.com to Frank Schilling’s Name Administration for $90,000. The domain name was sold by RegistrarAds, an affiliate of domain name registrar Dotster. Schilling already owned BlackFriday.net, so he probably had a good idea how well the domain would perform this week. (Friday is considered “Black Friday” for shopping.) Compete.com shows that BlackFridaySales.com received more than 40,000 unique visitors in November 2009.

Here’s how to maximize your chances of getting the .co domain names you want — without breaking the bank.

.Co domain name registration will be open to the public July 20. But if you want to get a good domain name, you’ll need to pre-register the domains prior to the general release. On July 20 the registrars will be pinging the .co registry servers like mad in a bid to get domains that were pre-registered. Going at it by hand will be difficult.

Each registrar has different policies for .co pre-registration, and how they will choose which domains to go after is somewhat nebulous. Here’s what we do know: most registrars charge you up front and refund your money if they fail to get the domain (Dotster is a notable exception). Here’s what we don’t know: how the registrars will choose which domains go at the top of its queue (possibly the most popular domains that will be harder to get) and if they’ll allow more than one pre-registration for a domain (and how they will allocate domains pre-registered by multiple parties).

Go Daddy confirmed to me that it will only accept one pre-registration per domain name. It might select an order to submit domains to the registry to maximize the number of domains it procures.

Your best best appears to be OpenSRS, which charges only $25. Your worst bet, unless it’s a domain that will attract a lot of attention anyway, is eNom/NameJet. Although they don’t charge up front, you’ll go to an auction if more than one person pre-registers the domain.

One thing’s for sure: a winning strategy is to pre-register at multiple registrars. That means more of them will be working for you on July 20.

Here are the ten officially accredited .co registrars and their prices for pre-registration:

GoDaddy – $29.99/year. If they don’t get the domain you get a refund. Only one pre-registration per name, so hurry to beat your competition.

NetSol – $29.99, will charge $39.99 after pre-registration.

MelborneIT – 80.00 AUD

OpenSRS – $25 (email mklein [at] tucows.com to get a free OpenSRS account).

Register.com – price not listed yet

eNom – will auction through NameJet. No cost to pre-order, but auction starts at $39. Only good for competitive names.

Dotster – $34.99, but only charged if successfully get the domain name. You should probably pre-register any competitive domains at Dotster too since you don’t have to pay anything out of pocket.

Mi.com.co – price not disclosed yet

Dominio Amigo – $59.90

InternetX – unsure, need to be a reseller to purchase.

Here’s a guide to getting .co at the lowest price.

I have a feeling .co is going to be hot. It will have one of the best country code “relaunches” we’ve ever seen. .CO Internet has undertaken one of the most impressive “new TLD” pre-marketing campaigns that I can think of, and the buzz is mounting. I’ve had several non-domainer friends email me inquiring about the domain.

The global sunrise period for trademark holders is going on until June 10, followed by a landrush June 21-July 13. The sunrise includes unprecedented checks to keep people from “gaming” the system as we’ve seen in other launches. There will be an auction if more than one sunrise applicant qualifies.

Even though it officially doesn’t start until June, the landrush phase has sort of started already as many registrars are offering landrush applications for the domains now. If more than one application is received for a domain, it will be auctioned off.

Here’s a look at how <del datetime="2010-05-12T14:02:48+00:00">8 of the 10</del> the accredited .co registrars are pricing the domains prior to general availability*. Based on these numbers, it seems that eNom and OpenSRS (Tucows) are your best bet for pricing during sunrise and landrush.

OpenSRS
-Global Sunrise: $205 non-refundable application fee (covers trademark application) + $25 Registration Fee (if name is awarded, includes 1-year registration)
-Landrush: $5 application fee and $220 registration fee if domain awarded.

GoDaddy
-Global Sunrise: $299.99. Refundable except for $270.00 application fee if you don’t get the domain.
-Landrush: $299.99. Refundable except for $10.00 application fee if you don’t get the domain.
-General availaiblity: Go Daddy is already accepting applications for the general availability period for $29.99 per domain.

Register.com
-Global Sunrise: Unknown
-Landrush: $275 with Promo Code LR25. If they don’t get the domain you’ll get a refund less $9.00. They have a price match guarantee for the total price but “applies only to fees equal to or above $225 per domain and is only applicable for up to 10 domains per account”. So if you’d prefer to use Register.com but get lower pricing, you can quote them one of the lower competitor prices.

Dotster
Global Sunrise: $299 non-refundable application fee plus $34.99 per year for registration.
Landrush: $10 application fee. If you get the domain it’s $325 plus $34.99 for each additional year of registration.

InternetX
Unknown, must have a reseller account to apply.

MelbourneIT
-Global Sunrise: $340 for the first year.
-Landrush: $310 for first year, includes $15 application fee and $290 registration fee. Presumably the $290 would be refunded if you don’t get the domain.

eNom
-Global Sunrise: non-refundable application fee is $200 and there’s a $25 additional fee if you get the domain name.
-Landrush: $5.00 application fee and $220 if you get the domain.

Network Solutions
-Global Sunrise: $240 non-refundable application fee, plus $39.99 if you get the domain.
-Landrush: pricing not yet released

mi.com.co
-Global Sunrise: 279.99 non refundable. Includes first year registration fee.
-Landrush: To be published 1st of June
-GA: To be Published 1st of July

*Prices based on posted prices on each registrar’s web site as of 5/10/10. Domains will also be available through other registrars who have resale agreements with the above registrars.
